The DanRadcliffe.com Birthday Scrapbook

The Birthday Scrapbook came about one day while we were all bouncing ideas about for things to do for Dan's birthday. Our Forum moderators came up with this great idea and worked hard to promote it. Their persistence and reminders paid off as we received well over 500 submissions for this project! The scrapbook itself is 78 pages. There were multiple entries in some pages, and others took up a full page. Unfortunately I could not fit everyone into the scrapbook, but I did create a Fan Mural with the names of those who contributed that did not get their submission added into the book. Inside the scrapbook I made a little pouch that holds our Fan Video CD in it as well. There are too many pages to show them all here so I have created an album showing what I think are some of the best entries in the scrapbook. Please excuse the quality of the pictures - I had to use my camcorder to take them as my digi cam broke ::

Song For Daniel

The song, "Song For Daniel", came to me very suddenly.  I was standing in my living room talking to a friend about how "together" Daniel is, despite the overwhelming fame at such a young age.  People tend to smile when they look at him, or think about him, or hear his name, or see and hear him on television, as himself, or on film.  The words starting coming to me so quickly that I had to run upstairs to my computer to put them down as they came to me.  Strangely, for me, the melody came at the same time.  Usually, if I want to create a melody to something I write, I struggle with it for awhile.  With "Song For Daniel", the melody came at the same time and I was humming it and typing it simultaneously.

It was as if the song were dictated to me.  Daniel has that effect on people.  They become happy inside and creative because he is. 

Judy sings the song herself, unaccompanied.  Here, it is set to a video of Dan compiled from news reports, interviews and movie footage that highlights particular elements of the lyric.

Fan Tribute Video

Admit it, those of you with long memories were wondering where this had got to.  For a while there, so were we!  This project was originally announced back in November 2002, the idea being to send the video to Dan for Christmas.  What were we thinking...?!

We asked readers for pictures, messages and audio/video clips saying what you thought of Dan and you responded magnificently.  Only then though did we realize the magnitude of the task we had set ourselves.  The original editing plans and deadline went out the window and then stayed that way as other projects and dramas and commitments came and went.  But we just couldn't give up and eventually, having bounced the project from New York to Florida to California and back again, the fan tribute video to Dan was finally born, just in time for his 14th birthday.

To our readers: We tried to cram as many of you as we could into the available six minutes and we hope we did you justice.  We think you'll agree that this video represents a warm and heartfelt tribute to a wonderful young man from his dedicated band of fans.

These clips will only be available for download on July 23rd, 2003.

Some points to note:

1. Any streaks and humming on the video clips are a part of the final video and are due to the quality of the original clip.  We tried to clean and amplify them as best we could.
2. When you hear or see any references to Christmas, just bear in mind that the original intent was to send this in time for Christmas!
3. If you are one of the people who contributed to this project but didn't get the chance to view it on Dan's birthday and would like to see it, please contact Allo.
4. This was a special project undertaken by fans of Dan who read this site and it will only be available for a very limited time.  We would appreciate it if you did not copy the video clips to your site, or hotlink to our clips or redistribute them to other sites.  Thank you.

What did DAN Have To Say About All Of This?

We are happy to report that Daniel received the Fan Scrapbook, Video, and other birthday wishes that were sent to him last week. He was very happy, and he sent over a little message to the readers of DanRadcliffe.com ::

I am completely overwhelmed by this amazing scrapbook to celebrate my 14th birthday. When it was presented to me I was speechless (this must be a first!). Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who put so much time and effort into this incredibly beautiful, stylish and witty album. I will treasure it forever - I promise you!

I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made donations to the National Autistic Society instead of sending me birthday presents. This is a fantastic idea for a wonderful organisation.

I will celebrate my birthday next week on set. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is going well and I can't wait for you all to see it next year.

Thank you once again for the kindness you continue to show me. I feel very honoured.
