Daniel Radcliffe : Almost but no Cigar

One of our UK staff reporters, Stef, went to the place in question for the London Evening Standard 2003 Awards :: The Savoy. She didn't actually get to meet him, or even see him, but she did give us a lot of details from Behind the Scenes of the event that I thought you would find interesting.....including some tidbits about Dan himself, so without further adieu, here is Stef's Story ::

On Sunday morning I made my way to the hotel. Because of problems with the tube, I had to catch the bus and it took about 1 hour to get to the hotel (traffic).

I arrived there at about 5 p.m. and everything was so quiet. No people outside, no people inside. I went into the hotel restaurant (because the bar was closed) and asked a very nice waiter if I could just get something to drink. He said "yeah" so I just sat in the restaurant. I talked to him and he told me that everybody was already downstairs in the Lancaster room (they had ordered 2 rooms..1 for the award, 1 for the aftershow party).

The waiter said that Dan had been in the restaurant at about 3pm. The waiter told me Dan had been very shy (rarely talked to anyone) and he was surrounded by celebs who wanted to get his autograph. So no fans inside :-)

I asked the waiter if I could walk through the hotel to have a look. So I walked through the hotel and went to the room where the aftershow party tookplace. They were still doing the soundcheck and let me in. It was quite interesting. The theme was 40 years of James Bond.

Then I tried to get downstairs to check on the other room, but there was this security guy who said he couldn't let me in because of the awards. So I went back to the restaurant.

...and there I stayed until 12... and nothing happened. But the nice waiter brought me Champagne, so it all was quite funny. Some people from the awards came upstairs .....but there were no celebs that I knew.

...and then I had to leave, because of the night bus. Ah well...I didn't see him..... But it was fun anyway.
